Overview
What is "Alepo" ?
- The Alepo is a language created by myself, ressembling to russian, japanesse and sometimes spanish
- Alepo is a language that was originaly made for WeirdScape, which is a monocosm i've made a while ago and never finished
- Alepo is an ideographic language, meaning that each sylabes have their own signification and so that puting them together forms words that are mixs of the sylabes put in them
- There some grammar in it too, but you can mostly make up your own words yourself with pre-existing letters
What is its purpose ?
- The main purpose I had with Alepo was to be able to have my own universe with my own kind of latin, which at the time I thought was really neat and nerdy but kinda usefull
- Today, Alepo is just a language i've created and that I sadly don't use anymore
- I sometimes add new words to my dictionary (yes, I have a custom dictionary in my phone)
What does it contains ?
- Currently, you can pretty much present yourself, talk a bit about your family and not much more
- I have to add more words in the dictionary but you can actually make your owns by using the alphabet
- Since Alepo is a ideographic language, you can basically shape it however you like while you respect some rules (that I know, but I have to write them off because they make sense in my head but maybe not in yours)
How was it made ?
Beginning
- I started to create Alepo almost two years ago for WeirdScape, by "mutating" the english alphabet (writting it badly, then making it look more like a real alphabet)
- I was cool to have my own cyphered alphabet but wasn't quite a language yet, so I quiclky abandonned the alphabet-thing to focus more on new letters, meanings and words
Creating letters
Creating a new alphabet
- Creating the letters was pretty simple, it's basically just a simple grid of consonants and vowels with some exeptions :
| A | E | O | U | Y | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| K | KA | KE | KO | KU | KY |
| L | LA | LE | LO | LU | LY |
| N | NA | NE | NO | NU | NY |
| P | PA | PE | PO | PU | PY |
| R | RA | RE | RO | RU | RY |
| S | SA | SE | SO | SU | SY |
| SH (H) | SHA | SHE | SHO | SHU | SHY |
| T | TA | TE | TO | TU | TY |
- So : Each formations of letters are made of a consonant sound plus a vowel sound
- Some exeptions like "A" (one), "E" (and) and "O" (zero / none) don't contains vowels and are used as well as letters than words
Giving meanings to each letters
- To give meaning to letters, I used the row to get a kind of category of words
- For example, the "SH" row is based on states (liquid, solid, places, objects, now, ...)
- Other example, some words that are connected share at least one letter : "RO" means masculinity, "KO" means femininity and "RY" means gender
- Other than that, I just gave letters meaning when I wanted to have a specific word
Creating words
- In progress
Grammar Rules
Non-Nominative Form
- The non-nominative form is used to identify a person according to the context
- It also allows for abbreviated speech
Usage
- Ly’o Akiha (Their name is Akiha)
- In this sentence, the pronoun “ 'O ” is used instead of a usual pronoun such as “NO,” “TO,” “RO,” or “KO”
- Unlike “SY,” “ 'O ” refers to a person based on context and not on gender or knowledge of the person
Additive Form
- The additive form allows elements to be repeated or added to a word
Usage
- A’e’o
- For the word representing ten, the additive form is used to add an “A” (one) to ‘O’ (zero) with “E” (and)
- The use of quotation marks allows us to differentiate between different words in writing and speech
- Ale’e
- Here, the “E” alone allows the repetition of the last word or group of words (here “Ale” (letter) which becomes "Ale" + “Ale” (phrase))
